Final Four Time

It is that time. Time for the Final Four in Mens' Division I-A Basketball. The upsets, the drama, the obvious wins, and busted brackets have led us to the Tango portion of the Big Dance. The dance partners, Kansas will be with North Carolina in what ESPN is dubbing the "Roy Williams game" essentially, and Memphis will take on cross country foe UCLA. But who will win these games, head to the final Sonata, and win the trophy draped in netting? I'll try and tell you. UNC v. Kansas I have a feeling that this will be a close game. Both are athletic, both play aggressive defense, and both have offenses that can score. Pay attention in the low post. If Kansas can control Tyler Hansborough , they will have a good shot at winning the game, and they have to keep his newly found 17-foot jumper under control as well. But the Jayhawks can't forget about the rest of the Heels, Danny Green , Wayne Ellington , and Ty Lawson specifically, because all 5 guys on the floor can score

My Take on the Drinking Age.

Recently, USC quarterback Stephen Garcia got caught drinking in front of his dorm. The problem, he is 20. He also had another incident when he was 19 with drinking alcohol. Well, he got suspended from football, allowed to finish the semester, but not allowed to attend summer school, and he has been forced to leave campus. Is this Garcia's own fault due to lack of judgment? You bet. Did he break the law? Yes. But is the drinking age law justified? I give a resounding no! Let's look at all the things that an 18-year old can do in America. According the the Constitution and the 26th Amendment, an individual in the United States can cast a vote in an election, primary, etc. Also, one can sign up to fight, and have the possibility to die, for one's country. Add that to being able to buy cigarettes (aka cancer in a stick), get married, go off to college, just to name a few. Add this to the responsibility of driving at age 15-16, and you have an absolutely upside down system wh

Spring Preview Part 2: Clemson

Last time I looked at South Carolina and their spring practice. This time I will look at Clemson, who has already started spring drills. .............................................................................................................................................................................. The Clemson Tigers are coming off a strong 9-4 season, even though they lost a close Chik-fil-a Bowl to Auburn. They had a strong off-season signing multiple top prospects like DE Daquan Bowers, RB Jamie Harper, DB Spencer Adams, and DT Brandon Thompson, just to name a few. On offense at QB, the Tigers bring back starter Cullen Harper . RS freshman Willy Korn and true freshman Kyle Parker will battle for #2, while Korn also pushes Harper for starting time. At running back, the Tigers lose a little depth, moving Sadat Chambers back to defense, and the loss of Ray McElrathbey. Clemson may have had their biggest "commitment" with the return of James Davis (All will rememb

Spring Preview Part 1: South Carolina

College basketball is in high gear. Conference tournaments are getting underway, while some have already punched their ticket for the big dance (that ironically ends in April...go figure). Spring training is underway for the majors, and even NASCAR is hitting into high gear, pardon the pun. But the football fields are not silenced. Spring practices are either already starting, are getting ready to do so. Today, I'll take a look at both USC and Clemson; what both schools have coming back, what was lost, and what needs to be improved. Plus, I'll give my things to watch for. Today, I'll focus on USC. ........................................................................................................................................ The Gamecocks come limping into the spring after a 6-6 season that can be seen as nothing more than a let down. USC signed a descent class, but it pails in comparison to the 2007 class. A few of the signees enrolled early (DBs Akeem Auguste , Ant
