Consider VP When Voting in November

Before the current VP Dick Cheany took office, the position was a dream job for the do nothings of the world. All one had to do was basically decide tie votes in Congress. Outside of attending cabinet meetings, going to Presidential galas, the VP got the honor to rest in the mansion, chill in the White House, and ride the coattails of the President. Now, thanks the Cheany, the power of the office expanded exponentially, and the next VP will inherit a good deal of power along with the possibility of becoming President if catastrophic events happened—if the new President, either McCain or Obama, were to go the route of the dodo, and expire. Let’s be serious, whoever wins the Presidency faces the grim reality that they may not finish as President. McCain with his advanced age has to be a concern for voters, while Obama faces an outside force that has plagued our country since 1865: racism. As much as I hate to imagine, Obama could be the target of an attempted assassination from

Weekly Predictions: Week 5

Another week has gone by. I'm a little burned-out this week, so the intro will be short this week, and I'm just going to get straight into the games, but Wake did make me look like a genius, and the Auburn v LSU game was very entertaining (even though I picked it wrong). But it is a new week, so let's get down to it. @ #3 Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0) Georgia is coming off a west coast venture where they took care of business and beat Arizona State 27-10. Georgia is led by their star running back Knowshon Moreno (69 carries for455 yards, 9 TDs) and the arm of quarterback Matthew Stafford (62-for-102 , 919 yards, 5 TDs, 0 INT). Stafford as also found him a favorite target duo in true freshman AJ Green (16 catches, 300 yards, 2 TDs) and upper junior Mohammed Massaquoi (14 catches, 195 yards, 2 TDs). The offense as a whole is putting up about 36 points/game, with 190 yards on the ground, and about 260 through the air. The Defense has been stifling so far this year, allowing only 14

9/11 should be Centerpoint to End Partisanship

356 weeks ago, our world was turned upside down. Two airplanes were turned into weapons, and crashed into the two symbols of enterprise and capitalism. Later, a third plane was flown into our symbol of justice. What followed next was far beyond horrific, as we all should remember. I, like most people, remember exactly where I was and what I was doing: sitting in an 8 th grade math class at McCants Middle School , listening to my teacher drone on about matrices. I can remember the events that followed as if it happened yesterday—no matter how hard I try to block them out. My geography teacher bursts into the room, saying a sentence that still sends shivers up and down my spine, “The World Trade Center has been bombed.” I remember going through the day, not an ounce of school work being done, all focus on the television screen. I remember going home, going to bed, and waking up the next day—thinking it was all a dream. But it sadly wasn’t, no dream could be that horrific. On Se

I have to say I've been very pleased with this college football season so far--except for the terrible officiating that has run rampant. The Washington game stands out when they called quite possibly the most ticky-tack celebration call in the history of sports. Sadly, I feel officiating played a role in the outcome of the USC v UGA game--a game that Georgia won 14-7. But, I went 2-1 on the special picks, adding with So. Cal beating the life out of Ohio State, but I was shut out from the sweep with Virginia Tech's upset of Georgia Tech, helping me to a 13-3 week (Arkansas vs Texas was postponed due to Hurricane Ike. The Reports' thoughts and prayers are with those in Texas) Well, it is a new week, new games, same emotion. How will I do this week? @ #10 Tigers aka War Eagle (3-0, 1-0) Auburn had an odd game last week as they opened SEC play against Mississippi State. A hard fought, low scoring game isn't odd in the SEC. A game with a final score of 3-to-2 is. The Tiger

Republicans are Lying Again!

The past few weeks the political scene has widdled itself down to the two parties nominees—John McCain for the Republicans and Barak Obama for the Democrats. Recenlty, both parties made it official with their National Conventions in St. Paul/Minneapolis and Denver . Marked by a who’s-who of political faces, giant jumbo screens, and a mix of roaring and boring speeches, both parties were pushing “change” over the current status quo in Washington . One thing that hasn’t changed though is their true motives: getting our votes at almost any cost, and the Republicans are bending—and sometimes leaving complete segments out of—the truth. According to the Associated Press, who went back through and painstakingly fact checked and re-checked both parties speeches at the conventions, it was found out that both stretched the facts, but that the Republicans did more so. Starting off with the vice presidential selection Sarah Palin. Gov. Palin has stated she is against earmarks and wasteful sp

Weekly Predictions: Week 3

It is week 3 in college football. Last week USC laid an egg against Vanderbilt by not converting opportunities into points. Georgia Tech smashmouthed their way to a conference victory over Boston College, and putting me at 1-1 in big games. After the dust cleared, I had gone 14-3, bringing my season total to 29-8. How will I fare this week? (By the way, this week I will showcase 3, count em, THREE, headline games. One from the ACC and SEC, and a special game) #2 Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0) Georgia is coming off back-to-back blowouts over Georgia Southern and Central Michigan--which explains why the offense is putting up 50 points per game. The Dawgs are led by pre-season Heisman hopefull, quarterback Matthew Stafford (31-for-49, 488 yards, 4 TDs), and sensational runningback Knowshon Moreno (26 carries-227 yards, 6 TDs). Stafford's main target so far has been junior Mohamed Massaquoi (8 catches, 134 yards 2 TDs). The defense--that is giving up 19 ppg--is led by linebackers Rennie Curran (1

Well, the dust has settled, and the first week of college football is in the books. From a stunner in Charlotte with ECU topping Virginia Tech, to a blowout in Atlanta, and a single overtime thriller out in The Rose Bowl to cap off the weekend, football is back and appears to be better than ever. I went an okay 15-6 last week, going 1-1 in the headline games with USC shutting out NC State, but Alabama busted my bubble as they blew away Clemson in the Georgia Dome with hard nosed football. How will I fare this week? This weeks headliners will be Georgia Tech vs. Boston College from the ACC, and South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt from the SEC. Commodores (1-0, 0-0) Vanderbilt is coming off an impressive 34-13 victory over Miami (Oh.). The 'Dores are led by quarterback Chris Nickson (9-of-16 for 91 yards, 1 TD passing; 20 carries for 166 yards, 2 TDs). On defense, Vandy is led by cornerback Myron Lewis (7 tackles, 1 INT), linebacker Chris Marve (5 tackles, 1 sack) and conerback D.J. Moor
