Baseball Begins

It is about that time of year. My absolute favorite time of the year. No, not the BCS, not the Masters, not even the Holiday Season. It is almost March, which means two things: March Madness in basketball, and my all time favorite sport, baseball, gets into full swing. Pardon the pun. The crack, or ping, of the bat; the sound of the ball smacking the leather; the smell of the grass; that feeling you get in your lungs when you inhale that brown dust thrown into the air after a game deciding slide at home. Man do I love baseball! And I am lucky enough to be in a state that has so much good baseball to pick from. Clemson has had a strong team the past few years, as well as South Carolina. (I believe both recorded wins today. Clemson beat Mercer 12-5 and 6-5; South Carolina beat East Carolina 22-5 in game 1, but lost the second game 13-4). And this doesn't stop at the big boys level. Teams like Winthrop, The Citadel, USC Aiken, Coastal Carolina, and Erskine field very competitive tea

Mid Majors in College Basketball

This story by rivals.com got me thinking about mid majors in college basketball . First, one must gain an understanding of what a mid-major team is. In general, a mid-major basketball team can be considered, to me, any team that is in the class of Division I-AA schools. Examples from the area would be Winthrop, Coastal Carolina, SC State, Charlotte: I think you get the picture. Anyway, I agree with the article that the term should no longer be used in the college basketball arena. Why? For one, there are mid-majors out there that could beat some division I-A schools. Also, look at teams like George Mason University. This team made up of "who's thats" made the Final Four recently, beating teams like UConn. Keep in mind, UConn won a National Title not to far back. Just look at this years top 25. As of February 19, 5 "mid-majors" (Xavier, Butler, Georgetown, Drake, St. Mary's) were competing with the big boys. Other numerous teams, although not in the top 25, w

My take on recruiting (2008)

Signing Day has passed, and after a great number of days, I have looked at both USC and Clemson classes, and tried to give each a fair, unbiased look at what was achieved, what was missed, and who I expect each school to see immediate action from. I will also look at next year, and give a top list of in state players the two will want to look at, as well as needs the two teams might want to fill. The idea for the post today comes from GoGamecocks.com 's uscjeremyinca and SouthCak. Thanks guys, and enjoy. Clemson The tigers pulled in a monster class, made up of one 5 star, thirteen 4 stars, eight 3 stars, and four 2 stars (According to Rivals). Not only did they clean out the state of some of its top talent, they also pulled in some steals from out of state. One thing that was achieved was an upgrade in depth. Looking at the offensive recruits, the Tigers are building for the future. QB Kyle Parker looked strong in the UnderAmour AllStar game, as did RBs Jaime Haper and Andre Ell

A Perspective on Ignorance

As you all know I'm a mass communications major. You all also know I attend a school named Anderson University , which is affiliated with the southern baptist (fascist) convention. Well, this past week as been a tough one to say the least, and not even in the classroom. It started off on a Monday in the eating area, aka The Cafe'. All was well on a pleasant day; the sun was shining, the temperature was a brisk 55 F, and not a cloud in the sky-what could ruin this day? Well, a simple T shirt. A T shirt with the wording "Cure Abortion." Well this is a set off point. As you all probably have noticed, I have a link to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website, a disease which I was born with. My blood boils from this point-you can't cure abortion, it isn't a disease; and to equate to such shows complete ignorance total lack of respect to those of us that were born with a disease. Abortion is a choice; I didn't choose to be born the way I am, and I'm sure

My favorite movie

It has been awhile since I've written-I ran out of ideas. So, recently I held an open discussion on GoGamecocks.com for people to state what topics they'd like to read about from my perspective. A lot of good ideas came in, and a good many are waiting in the wings, but this topic "won" the "competition." It comes courtesy of DMSports. Thanks and enjoy. .............................................................................................................................................................................. What makes a great movie? Some say great special effects (or special efx), some say a great script, some say a great director, and some say top notch acting. Well, in my opinion, a great movie is made of strong acting, great directing, a strong script, character development, and in interesting plot line. 1960s Inherit the Wind , starring the great Spencer Tracy and Fredric March. Before I get to saying why this movie is, in my opinion, th
