Weekly Predictions: Week 10

Hello again.

The Report has taken down the fences, reopened the gates, and is back open for another week of college football picks.
Last week was extremely hectic, and I figured since USC and Clemson took bye weeks, why can't I?

I did watch NCAA football, and boy, was I ever impressed with Texas Tech, the LSU/Georgia game, and my biggest question is, how many blocks will Florida get this week? Also, Georgia Tech got beat by Virginia of all teams, and FSU put the hammer to the Hokies.

Overall, I went 11-5, bringing my season total to 107-38 (not to bad if I say so myself).
It is a new week, and I'm re-energized for some picks. This week, we have dueling Florida/Georgia matches, as the Gators take on the Bulldogs, and the Yellow Jackets take on the Seminoles.

VS

#5 Gators (6-1, 4-1)
Florida is coming off a blowout 63-5 victory over Kentucky. Their offense is putting up 42 points/game on 196 yards rushing and 241 yards passing. Heisman winning QB Tim Tebow (104-for-164, 1,415 yards, 12 TDs-2 INTs) is having a down year compared to last season. He is getting some relief in the running game with the emergence of Jeffery Demps (30 carries, 359 yards, 4 TDs) and Curtis Rainey (49 carries, 336 yards, 2 TDs) even though he has carried it 82 times for 311 yards and 5 TDs. The passing game is still the Percy Harvin (26 catches, 429 yards, 6 TDs) and Louis Murphy (20 catches, 315 yards, 2 TDs) show, but is aided by TE Aaron Hernandez and WR Riley Cooper.

The defense is giving up roughly 12 points/game on 103 yards rushing and 171 yards passing. They are led by linebacker Brandon Spikes (52 tackles, 2 INTs), defensive end Carlos Dunlap (18 tackles, 4 sacks), safety Ahmed Black (29 tackle,s 3 INTs), and safety Major Wright (35 tackles, 2 INTs).

#8 Bulldogs (7-1, 4-1)
The Dawgs are coming off a big win over LSU that was in Baton Rouge. Their offense is putting up about 34 points/game on 173 rushing yards, and 259 passing. QB Matthew Stafford (141-for-229, 1,946 yards, 12 TDs-5 INTs) has improved greatly since his freshman, and is arguably the top QB in the conference. RB Knowshon Moreno has avoided the sophomore slup, and has netted 925 yards on the ground with 12 TDs (6.2 yards/carry; 14 catches, 143 yards). Freshman receiver AJ Green (39 catches, 662 yards, 5 TDs) has exceeded the billing and senior Mohammed Massaquoi (28 catches, 366 yards, 4 TDs) has found is groove as a second option guy in the Georgia offense. Keep an eye out for RB Caleb King and WR Kenneth Harris, because they may make those one or two small plays that pay big dividends in the end.

The Defense is giving up about 21 points/game on 77 rushing yards, but 221 yards passing. One thing to note is that as a team, they have sacked the opposing QB 15 times this year, along with getting 44 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. They are led by linebackers Rennie Curran (69 tackles, 3 sacks) and Darryl Gamble (45 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INTs), safety Reshad Jones (43 tackles, 3 INTs), and defensive tackle Geno Atkins (23 tackles, 3.5 for loss).

Breakdown
Simply put, the winner of this game goes to the SEC Title game in Atlanta. It is a rivalry, it is cocktail party, and it is for the SEC East crown. No other words are needed.
Did I mention Florida is still miffed over the Georgia endzone celebration from last years contest?

Prediction
I really see a classic brewing here. Both teams have the top two QBs in the conference, and also have the best all around talent in their division.
I see both QBs have strong days, and the one who makes that crucial mistake will probably lose the game for his team.
I think Defense will be tough in the first half, but scoring gives way in the second.

Don't expect anything to be held back, and don't think for a second that Urban Meyer has forgotten the "Doggie Shuffle" from the last game.

Look for a Gator Boot-Scoot in this one, all the way to Atlanta for the SEC Title game.

Georgia 23

#16 Seminoles (6-1, 3-1)
The 'Noles are coming off a big 30-20 win over Virginia Tech, as they look to regain their throne of dominance once held in the ACC. QB Christian Ponder is staring to fall into his role, and the State offense has slowly been improving, and quietly has worked its way just outside the Top 15. Runningback Antone Smith brings the muscle, and Greg Carr is the possession guy.
The fast, athletic defense is led by defensive end Everette Brown, linebacker Derrick Nicholson, and safety Myron Rolle.

Yellow Jackets (6-2, 3-2)
The Jackets are coming off a close loss to the surprising Virginia Cavaliers (1st in the Coastal Division). Jonathan Dwyer is heading the running game, and Josh Nesbitt is looking more comfortable in the option offense, and Damarius Thomas has proven to be a viable downfield option.
While on defense, watch for defensive ends Derrick Morgan and Michael Johnson, along with safety Morgan Burnett and cornerback Jai-Word Daniels.

Breakdown
The 'Noles are in the driver's seat. A win here goes nicely in getting them one step closer to a trip to the ACC Title game. For Tech, it is a must win game if they want any hope of even being in contention for the Title game.

Prediction
Florida State has to be happy Preston Parker has returned, and that their offense if finally starting to click. One thing that worries me is the young 'Nole Oline that features 3 freshman and two sophomores...which is great for the future, but not what they need now.
Georgia Tech is in a must win situation. A loss here and they are all but out of any hope for the division crown; a win and they are still in the hunt.

FSU is also in a must win. A win, and they are in good shape to lock up the division.
Look for Georgia Tech's line to get penetration, especially at the ends, and their offense to grind it out. FSU needs to use that lightning in a bottle offense to get Tech down early and out of their comfort zone.
